George Franklin wasn’t planning to run for Congress. But then Donald Trump came along and he was called to serve. A lifelong Democrat, he was fed up with Republicans in Congress who refuse to hold Trump accountable.

A longtime leader at Kellogg Company, George helped create and protect jobs in the community for over 30 years. He’s also been an engaged and active community leader, helping create a groundbreaking drug court system, expanding educational opportunities on the Board of Western Michigan University, and even working to establish the Asylum Lake Preserve — a 274 acre passive-use recreation area in Kalamazoo.

George’s campaign focused on Universal Affordable Health Care, Planned Parenthood and a Woman’s Right to Choose, protecting Social Security and Medicare as well as fighting against racist and inhumane policies that have no place in America.

Standing against right wing Extremists

"In 1955–1956, Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood up to far-right hate groups and led the Montgomery Bus Boycott, changing history. Back then, my Dad worked in Chicago at the Montgomery bus lines parent company. When the time came, Dad delivered the message to white Alabama officials that segregation would no longer be allowed on buses.”

“My father’s involvement in the Montgomery Bus Boycott helped shape the person I am today.”

“The white “citizens council” tried to threaten Dad, but he didn’t back down. While Dad didn’t face the same risks African American leaders did, his example has always reminded me that all of us must take action when others are being bullied, threatened, or abused.”
